Last month, we announced a new partnership with Tampa General Hospital, the University of South Florida, Tampa General Medical Group, Florida Urology Partners, and other private practices.
This collaboration will improve population health, enhance patient and provider engagement, and create greater cost efficiency in the Tampa Bay community. We recently sat down with Dale Aggen, Director of Managed Care at Tampa General Hospital to hear more about the new relationship with Caravan Health.

TGH has a great reputation for their commitment to high quality care delivery. U.S. News & World Report named TGH as the best hospital in the Tampa- St. Petersburg Metro area – ranked second overall in the state of Florida – and recognized the hospital as one of the best in the country in six specialties. TGH is a teaching hospital for the University of South Florida Health and recently earned the highest designation from the American Nurses Association for excellence in nursing.

We asked Dale about getting started in an Accountable Care Organization with Caravan Health.

Caravan Health: Why did your organization decide to join an ACO?
Dale Aggen: Tampa General Hospital joined the ACO primarily because of our new initiatives. We are starting a physician initiative and we want to get a strategic position to have the physicians involved in the hospital. We know that risk is going to be on the horizon and want to have our facility be prepared for that. Physicians need to be involved in the whole process.

Caravan Health: What was the most helpful part of connecting with Caravan Health?
Dale Aggen: Caravan Health has helped us to get the discipline behind the annual wellness visits, as well as other initiatives have that we need to help with population health revenue. This definitely helped us look at the ACO as one of the vehicles helping us take on more risk in the future. We know that the regulatory landscape has changed significantly, and it will continue to change. We want to be out in front of that – that’s why we joined Caravan Health to help us in this journey.
