Caravan Health continues to advocate to let rural hospitals fully participate in loan programs to help small businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week we sent a letter, co-signed by 8 of our rural health system partners, urging the Treasury Secretary and SBA Administrator to change affiliate rules that keep some rural hospitals out of loan programs. We have been also advocating to Congress for this change.
There is some good news for our hospital partners – SBA and Treasury are now allowing municipal-owned hospitals to participate in the small business loan programs. This recent letter to the agencies focuses on the affiliate rules, which prevent rural hospitals from participating if they have more than 500 employees across multiple sites.
