Last week Caravan Health hosted its 4th annual Accountable Care Symposium. Held in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Symposium was the largest attended to date. The two-day event included keynote speakers, breakout sessions, ACO award winners, and ample time for professional networking. Continuing Medical Education credits were available to health care professionals and for the first time, an interactive app was available for attendees and proved to be a successful tool.

Since the CMS announcement back in April 2019, we have been eagerly awaiting the details of Primary Care First, a new advanced primary care initiative. CMS released a detailed request for application last month, answering many questions, laying out a timeline for participation, and inviting applications.

These highly anticipated rules propose exceptions to the Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark Law) and safe harbors for the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS) that would make it easier for providers to participate in value-based health care arrangements.

CMS has made it clear that value-based care soon won’t be optional for providers in Medicare. Even our rural partners will have to get into risk before long. CMS is planning to announce a new rural model later this year.

Caravan Health Founder Lynn Barr hosted a webinar to review the outstanding results from the second year evaluation of the AIM program. Caravan played an important role in AIM, recruiting half of rural participants that earned 60 percent of savings for Medicare.
