VP of Business Development
Shannon Calhoun is Regional Vice President for the National Rural ACO and serves as the Executive Director for the American Rural ACO. During her 20 years in rural healthcare, Shannon has been responsible for developing business lines for rural networks that create sustainable solutions for both the network and the network’s rural healthcare members. These organizations build or contract for services that create an economy of scale and scope for rural hospitals. Her work includes development of a rural PPO network, provider/payor contracting and credentialing, fee strategy development, direct contracting with employers, and development of a strategy for CHIP and Medicaid. Her more recent work has been leveraging rural collaboration to gain grant awards totaling $9 million. These grants are focused on Information Technology adoption, quality improvement programs (diabetes), Health Information Exchange, and broadband connectivity. All of Shannon’s work is focused on programs that better position rural providers for healthcare reimbursement reform.
In June 2016, Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed Shannon to the Texas Health Services Authority Board of Directors.
Shannon was awarded the Aggie 100 in 2011, 2013 and 2014. She also serves on the board of the Texas Health Services Authority by appointment of the Texas governor.
